Want a future for local news? Call your MP...

I was invited on to CHCH Hamilton's Live@5:30 show for a mini debate with S-VOX executive Peter Miller on the future of local news. We agree on the fact that local TV has a future. Where we disagree is on the way to fix it, and on the role of the CRTC.

What do you think will save local TV, and local news in particular?

  1. You are raising an important issue, but it's almost too little too late. We as a society have allowed mega-corporations and investment banks to gobble up our media outlets with little regard to ownership concentration issues and the viability of quality local journalism. It's like when you have a problem with your Canadian Internet provider, and you call them up and get some guy in India speaking to you. Local services have been gutted in the name of corporate profitability, and there's no end in sight.

  2. So, given all that, why should we give up and go home?

    Just wondering.
